Hibernian 0-0 Rangers: Gers six points behind league leaders Hearts after Hibs earn draw

Rangers suffered a blow to their title hopes as they drew 0-0 with a determined Hibs side to finish the weekend six points behind leaders Hearts.

Mikey Moore looked to have spared the blushes of an otherwise lacklustre Gers side when he slotted under goalkeeper Raphael Salinger on 75 minutes to finish their first real chance of the game, but a marginal offside call meant the visitors dropped two valuable points in the title race.

The result leaves Rangers third, level on points with rivals Celtic who beat Falkirk, while Hibs stay fifth.

After a cagey start, a brave Hibs side had the better of the first-half chances and peppered the opposition box. Jack Butland was forced to keep his Rangers side level twice, producing a wonderful fingertip save from a curling Elie Youan effort, and smothering a low driven effort after being left one-on-one with striker Martin Boyle.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with the much-changed Rangers looking toothless and on the back foot until substitute Moore finished cleverly with 15 minutes to go before the flag was raised to the dismay of manager Danny Röhl.

But the disallowed goal gave Hibs a boost, as the hosts produced a flurry of late chances in an end-to-end finish. Debutant Owen Elding failed to convert on the best of the lot on 85 minutes, and Hibs were prevented from securing what would've been a richly-deserved win.

Rangers manager Danny Röhl speaking to Premier Sports:

"I think all in all, we expected a tough game, Not easy to come here - we know that from the past, but in the end I take this point today.

"We have to make the difference between the first 25 minutes and the end. We were better in the first 25, and then we lost the structure a little bit. They had more balls in behind and set plays and we lost our control. The second half was open as both teams went for the game. All in all, not the best game, not the best result, but we have to accept this.

"We need to win games in a row. But I come to the full picture. We have to take out steps, our points. With 14 games to go, we have a good opportunity, we have closed the gap since I've been here.

We want to win games, I know this - we are Rangers - but some days you have to take the points against a team who beat Hearts here, beat Celtic here.

On Transfer Deadline Day: "Let's see. I will wait, my phone will be on, but let's see."

Hibernian manager David Gray speaking to Premier Sports:

"Much more like us. Much more aggressive, created chances. Probably a wee bit disappointed that we didn't win the game, that would have the only thing missing. We were the better side, had the better chances and stood up to a very good Rangers side.

"You've got no right to win any game. When things are going well, you need to look at improving, when things are going bad you need to do the opposite.

"We had a bit of a depleted and new squad, a very young squad that finished the game which was exciting. Let's try and finish the season as strong as we can."
