Jacquet suffers serious shoulder injury after agreeing Liverpool move

Liverpools new summer signing Jeremy Jacquet has sustained a serious shoulder injury, according to Rennes head coach Habib Beye.

The 20-year-old fell awkwardly in the second half of a 3-1 defeat to Lens in Ligue 1 and appeared in agony as he left the pitch.

For Jeremy, its his shoulder, Beye said in his post-match interview.

Well have time to see, but its definitely quite serious.

Liverpool saw off competition from Chelsea to agree a 60m deal to sign the highly rated France Under-21 centre-back on July 1 on a five-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months.

Liverpool have agreed to pay a fixed fee of 55m plus a potential 5m in performance-related add-ons.

Very pleasing, of course, was Reds head coach Arne Slots verdict on the deal.

Hes a very big talent and maybe even more than a talent, but we speak about talent because of his age.

We werent the only one interested in him. Its another big compliment to the people working really hard to sign players because we were able to sign such a big talent.

Fernandes: Carrick showing he can be a great manager

Bruno Fernandes has claimed Michael Carrick is showing he can be a great manager after guiding Manchester United to another win.

United have now won four wins from four in the Premier League since taking over the interim reigns, and Fernandes admitted he told Carrick in his first caretaker spell in 2021 that he had potential.

"I think Michael came in with the right ideas of giving the players the responsibility," Fernandes told TNT Sports. "He's very good with the words.

"I think he still remembers what I told him the last time he was our manager for our last game. I was sure that Michael could be a great manager, and he's just showing it."

Antetokounmpo joins Chelsea Women ownership

Milwaukee Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo announced overnight that he has partnered with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian Sr. to join the ownership group of Chelsea Women.

"Chelseas history speaks for itself, and Im excited to contribute to the future by supporting continued growth and impact in womens sport. This is about ambition, legacy, and pushing the game to new heights. Up the Chels!"

Wigan sack boss Lowe after 6-1 defeat at Peterborough

League One strugglers Wigan sacked head coach Ryan Lowe following the 6-1 defeat at Peterborough, which left them 22nd in the table and two points from safety.

The Latics have managed just two wins in their last 12 league matches and taken just two points from the last 21 available.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Ryan for his efforts and wishes him all the best for the future," said a Wigan statement announcing they had parted company with Lowe, who had been in charge since March.

"In the interim, Glenn Whelan and Graham Barrow will take on first-team matters and the club will work quickly to identify and appoint a new head coach of the football club."

Jimenez triggers clause to stay at Bournemouth

AC Milan defender Alex Jimenez has triggered a clause in his loan deal at Bournemouth that will make his move permanent.

Bournemouth will pay Milan 16.8m plus 4.5m in potential add-ons for the 20-year-old.

He started against Aston Villa on Saturday and played 86 minutes, which triggered an appearance clause in his loan deal.

Jimenez's contract will run through until June 2031.

Frank: Spurs have serious owners

Thomas Frank has dismissed suggestions Tottenham's owners are not "serious" and believes they should be judged after the summer transfer window.

The club's former co-sporting director Fabio Paratici was unveiled by Serie A outfit Fiorentina on Thursday and spoke of his pleasure at working for "serious" owners.

However, Frank leapt to the defence of majority shareholders ENIC - run by the Lewis family Trust - and pointed out it is a new era given key figure Daniel Levy only left his role as chairman in September.

Asked if Tottenham had serious owners, Frank smiled: "They have very, veryserious owners.

"I understand why you need to ask that but I can only laugh about that.

"Yes, very, very serious. I speak to them. I'm together with them, so I'm not in doubt.

"I think it's a little bit unfair to judge them on a January transfer window. That's the only window where they've been in charge. Is this correct?

"I also think it's fair to say that, that was different before that. That's everyone's assumption, isn't it? I think it's unfair to judge them after this window, I really, truly do.

"Judge them after the next window and the following window. I understand there is a lot of scrutiny about the club, that's fair, but let's be fair."
