Tributes:
“Jocelyn Morlock has left us. We were roommates during my grad school years and spent many hours talking about music, guys, and food… she was a quirky, talented, and brilliant soul. We lost touch, and although I thought about her, read articles about her, and listened to her incredible music, I didn’t reach out. Rest in sweet peace, Jocelyn. You leave a sad, empty place for those who loved and admired you.”
“The music community is in deep mourning tonight. Jocelyn Morlock has left us. Sending love to John Korsrud, Jocelyn’s family, and our musical community from coast to coast. She was a lighthouse for so many – intelligent, witty, talented, and very kind. I remember weeping uncontrollably when I listened to the NAC Orchestra perform her “My Name is Amanda Todd” piece. We have lost an inspirational voice and a dear community member.”
At Manitoba’s Saint Boniface, Morlock was born. She earned a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Brandon University (B.Mus. 1994), where her tutors included T. Patrick Carrabré and Gerhard Ginader (electroacoustic music). She studied piano with Robert Richardson, Sr (composition).
She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a master’s degree and a doctorate in musical arts.
After performances of her quartet Bird in the Tangled Sky in Romania during the 1999 International Society for Contemporary Music’s World Music Days, Morlock’s international career was established.
She has created the required work for several music contests. In 2018, she was awarded the SOCAN Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award.
