A renowned radio personality from Pittsburgh died on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in a car accident for which an Aliquippa man was charged with several offences.

The collision at the intersection of Route 19 and Ehrman Road at 2:15 p.m. claimed the life of Bertram “B.J.” Forsyth, 46, of Cranberry. According to township police, the incident site forced the closure of Route 19 for about five hours.

Witnesses to the collision told Cranberry police that Darren Michael Martin, 34, of Aliquippa, was operating a U-Haul truck at a high rate of speed while it was moving north on Route 19. Police claim that the U-Haul struck Forsyth’s car after it continued through a persistent red light as it entered Route 19 from Ehrman Road.

On the spot, Forsyth’s death was confirmed. As per township police, investigators think Martin was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision. Martin submitted to a blood draw, but the test results were not made available on Monday.

No information was provided about the funeral arrangements.

When Forsyth worked as a radio host at Pittsburgh’s WKST-FM (96.1) and 3WS-FM (94.5), he was known as “B.J.”, according to PBRTV. He also employed the alias Art Vandelay at WESA-FM (98.3), which Charleroi licenced.

He most recently worked for Libsyn, a startup that produces more than 75,000 podcasts globally, according to his LinkedIn profile.
